Vaulabs at the FLSCC Countdown 2 Sustainability Forum, Kennedy Space Center
On Thursday, September 10, Vaulabs is heading up the coast to the Kennedy Space Center for Countdown 2 Sustainability, the 2026 sustainability forum run by the Florida Society of Cosmetic Chemists. Our founder, Natalie Vaulin, is attending for the full day, from check-in through dinner at the Apollo Saturn V Center.
We go to a small number of events each year, and we pick them the same way we pick suppliers: by whether the day produces something we can actually use on Monday.
What we are going there to find
The program runs from green chemistry and upcycled side-streams through a panel on the decisions behind great beauty brands, and closes with supplier speed networking. That last block is the reason the day is worth the drive.
Sustainability in contract manufacturing is rarely settled in a brand meeting. It gets settled upstream, in two places. First, whether a raw material is available in the quantity a production run needs, at a price that survives the cost sheet. A beautiful upcycled active that ships in ten kilo lots does not help a brand ordering 5,000 units per SKU. Second, whether the package holds. Recycled resin and mono-material components behave differently against a live formula than virgin material does, and compatibility testing is where that shows up, usually after the tooling has been paid for.
So the questions we will be asking suppliers are narrow on purpose. What is the minimum order quantity on that ingredient. What is the lead time to Clearwater. What documentation comes with it. Has anyone run it against a formula like ours, and what happened.
Why we care about the answers
We manufacture clean beauty in Clearwater, Florida, in an FDA-registered, NSF-certified facility, with minimums of 5,000 units per SKU and capacity for more than 400,000 units a month across four automated filling lines. Brands come to us when a formula has to hold up in retail paperwork, not only in a pitch deck.
That means every sustainability decision we bring back has to survive the same tests as everything else we put in a batch: stability, preservative efficacy, packaging compatibility, and a label a regulator will accept. We would rather come home with two suppliers who can actually ship than a folder of business cards.
None of this makes the marketing side unimportant. A claim nobody hears helps no one. But the order matters: the chemistry has to exist before the story does.
If you are going
Say hello. Natalie will be around between sessions, at the networking block in the afternoon, and at dinner in the evening. If you are a founder trying to work out what a sustainability claim will cost you in production, that is a good conversation to have in person, and a fast one.
If you are not going but the questions are live for you anyway, write to info@vaulabs.com. We answer every inquiry within 48 business hours, and we will tell you plainly which parts of a plan are workable at your volume and which are not.
